With the whole of the country experiencing the coldest winter in years it can be tempting to abandon your personal style for the nearest winter woollies in your wardrobe. But keeping warm while looking stylish need not be tricky . . . . . follow my guide to keeping warm with style.
Layer up
Several thin layers will keep you toasty much more effectively than wearing one great big chunky knit. If you really feel the cold start with a thermal vest – they’ve come along way over recent years and are now an essential addition to the modern woman’s wardrobe. Available in a fantastic choice ara of colours and styles try opt for lace trimmed vest teamed with a matching cardigan or wear long sleeved vests under knits for extra warmth.
If vests aren’t your thing take your long-sleeve tops and layer up with a shirt, cardigan or jumper over the top. Hooded jumpers worn under your favourite gillet can add a sporty twist.
Cashmere and merino wool are perfect for layering – they’re lightweight and retain heat very effectively while wraps and ponchos look fab worn with a polo neck jumper. Pure Collection have a fabulous selection of cashmere in lots of super colours and styles.

Tights worn under trousers while not the most flattering of looks is great for keeping the cold at bay. They’re best worn under wool trousers and jeans as synthetic fabrics will have a tendency to cling to your tights.
Invest in a warm coat
Whether you prefer a sporty puffer coat, a classic, tailored coat, a parka or this seasons on trend shearling coats remember outerwear is an investment piece and worth spending that bit extra on. Before you purchase always consider the durability and allow for garments to be worn underneath.
It’s a wrap
Scarves and pashminas are a great way to keep out the cold – wear them knotted around your neck or as a wrap around your shoulders for added warmth. They’re also fab for adding a splash of colour next to your face – Marks and Spencer have a great selection as do H&M.
Mad as a hatter
Most of our body heat is lost through our heads so it makes sense to keep them covered. Bobble hats are all the trend but if you prefer something a little more elegant try a fake fur brimmed hat.
