While I love the ease of summer dressing I know it’s not so for everyone, with a couple of clients at a recent workshop expressing their frustration (and dread) of knowing what to pack for their summer holiday.
With that in mind I thought it helpful to share my top tips for creating the perfect capsule wardrobe which will have you looking fab every step of the way with minimal effort.
Essential Holiday Items
Swimsuit or Bikini – A simple swimsuit or bikini that flatters your shape and boosts your confidence is all you need for fun in the sun
Kaftan – It’s this season’s key item and great for going from beachwear to teaming with white linen trousers and a vest top for a glam evening look
Selection of tops – Opt for smart casual tops as they are more versatile to dress up or down. Team with statement accessories for the evening
Shoes – Limit yourself to one pair for the day and one pair for the evening. Wedges are more versatile than heels and gladiator sandals are great for doubling up as day and night shoes. Stick to one colour (a neutral like nude, navy, gold or silver is my preference) as it makes dressing a lot easier
Tailored shorts – Plain shorts are more versatile. Wear with a swimsuit and flip flops round the pool and wedges and statement accessories for the evening.
Jeans – Don’t forgot your favourite pair of jeans as they can easily double up for day and evening wear!
Jumper or Hoodie – I actually like to take one of each. A light over sized jumper looks great worn with tailored shorts and pumps while a hoodie is more relaxed (and usually a little warmer) for evenings spent on the beach.
And For The Guys . . . .
Swimmers – Essential for lazy days on the beach or by the pool
Tailored Shorts – a great option for sight seeing and evening wear where permitted
Smart/Casual Trousers – choose a pair that are comfy for day wear but can also be worn to dinner with smarter shoes and a shirt. To keep things easy stick to neutral colours so you can mix and match with various tops
Selection of tops – opt for simple t-shirts in your favourite colours that will match your trousers and shorts. Collared t-shirts and shirts are best for evenings and don’t forget a fine knit or fleece. Even in hot climates a sea breeze can make it feel cool in the evening, whilst inside air-con can also make it chilly.
Shoes – if your planning on exploring while away a pair of trainers or trekking shoes will see you good for daytime. Add a pair of flip flops or sandals for beach days while deck shoes look great with shorts and trousers so a great option for evenings.
